The Economic and Social Research Bureau is one of the research units of the Ministry of Science and Telecommunications. It was founded in 1970 as the Economic and Social Research Council under the umbrella of the National Council for Research. In 2001, when the Ministry of Science and Technology was established, the Economic and Social Research Institute became one of the important units that constitute the National Centre for Research. According to the Presidential Decree No.280 of 2006, the Economic and Social Research Bureau was established as one of the units that constitute, the Ministry of Science and Telecommunications. It also formulates The Council of Economic, Social, and Humanitarian Studies Coordination.
The Bureau deals mainly with applied research in the area of socio-economic development. The Institute is managed by a director who is assisted by the five directors of the institutes and the four heads of the units.
There are about four Associate Research Professors seventeen Assistant Research Professors and six Researchers. In addition there is a reasonable supporting staff.
